‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures: Maxine Peake’ to take place on Wednesday 29 May
London, 22 May 2019: The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has today announced that BAFTA-nominated actress Maxine Peake will discuss her career at a ‘BAFTA: A Life in Pictures’ event on Wednesday 29 May.
‘BAFTA A Life in Pictures’ is a long-running series of onstage interviews in which some of the world’s leading film and television talent share insights into the experiences that helped them hone and develop their craft. The series has previously hosted figures including Annette Bening, Kenneth Branagh, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, David Fincher, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley Sam Mendes, Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman, Vanessa Redgrave, Martin Scorsese, Kristin Scott Thomas, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.
Maxine Peake is a prolific actress in film, television and theatre, as well as a respected playwright. She first came to public attention in the BAFTA-nominated sitcom Dinnerladies, in which she appeared from 1998 to 2000. Further television success followed in shows such as Shameless, which won a BAFTA in 2005, and Hancock and Joan, for which Peake received her first BAFTA-nomination in 2009.
Between 2011 and 2014 Peake starred as barrister Martha Costello in the BAFTA-nominated drama series Silk. She received her second BAFTA-nomination in 2014 as the hard-working matriarch in The Village. Other TV credits include The Devil’s Whore (2008), Red Riding (2009), Criminal Justice (2009), Black Mirror (2017), and the BAFTA-winning mini-series Three Girls (2017). Peake’s feature film credits include The Theory of Everything (2014), The Falling (2014), Funny Cow (2017) and Peterloo (2018).
Maxine Peake’s upcoming projects include the independent feature Gwen, a gothic thriller is set in 19th century Wales which received its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, and the four-part mini-series Anne, depicting the late Hillsborough justice campaigner Anne Williams and her battle to uncover the truth about the death of her 15-year-old son, Kevin. On stage, The Nico Project, a new co-creation by Peake and Sarah Frankcom and commissioned and produced by Manchester International Festival and the Royal Court Theatre, will portray the ‘dark side’ of Velvet Underground singer Nico.
